Longreach

6/6/16

Another reasonably early start, Ray’s back again not so good but he keeps going. Very flat out here, not a lot to see apart from the roos, eagles, bustards and crows. And then there’s the roadkill, so many!!!

View through the windscreen, most of today

  Bottle trees

Arrived in Longreach around 3pm and the camp spot we were planning on staying at was like a cattle yard, churned up after the rain and getting very packed with vans. So we decided to stay in a caravan park for a couple of nights, even with all the vans lined up to get in there’s plenty of room, nice big spots, no grass but fine gravel, nice and clean. Went to town to collect info on what to do here.  So much to do, so much you can spend to do it and so many other caravaners here, so we have decided to go to the Stockman's Hall of Fame and Outback Stockman's Show tomorrow.

7/6/16

Went to the SHoF and Outback Stockman’s Show. Really well set, up easy to follow through the different displays and very educational. Lots of quality exhibits

Entrance to the Hall

The obvious in RFDS exhibit

Sculpture from bike & car parts

These were the finest weavings!

This wagon impressed Ray by it’s size, no wonder they needed so
many bullocks to pull these things, every part of them looks heavy
without being heavily loaded, as they always were

Looking through the RFDS display we could listen to some pilots telling their stories and saw the name of some friends son in law, so of course had to listen to him. I was so busy trying to get    viewable pictures of him that I can’ t quite remember what he said, sorry Otto!

You could spend all day, even the 2 allowed by the entry fee, if you read every word and listened to every tale.

The outback show was a one man show with his animals used as a stockman. Informative and entertaining!

Finished the day with a quick catch up over coffee with a ‘girl’ I went to school with, who is working in Longreach at the moment.
