First stop Sawtell to catch up with our son and family for a couple of days.
Planned to set off towards Toowoomba on Saturday, when rain and wind forecast for the south east coast of Queensland so prepared to leave early Saturday morning to beat the flooding.
Good pack up and away just after 7am in the rain, which hardly let up all the way to the Tweed but fortunately for us everyone else heeded the strong whether warning to stay off the road….until the Tweed when traffic picked up as well as the rain and wind, we couldn’t see far in front of us a few times, one time having a P plater pull out in front of us from the breakdown lane. Don’t know how we missed them!
The car and caravan went really well, Ray’s back wasn’t as bad as it was by Port Macquarie on Thursday and we were making great time until an accident on the M2 at Ipswich and where we were redirected around North Ipswich for 45 minutes bumper to bumper. Unfortunately 2 people were killed in the accident.

Left Halidon around 7.45am heading for Roma. Incident free trip arriving at a stopover east of Roma for lunch. Ray’s back not so good today but a walk around the car a couple of times and the lunch break gave it a rest. Headed for Mungallala rest stop for the night, lost one of the extension mirrors somewhere along the way (how did we not notice?) Firewood provided at rest stop so Ray is in his element playing with fire, ready to toast over the coals for tea. Another nice spot to stop for the night, the only other campers are from Kundabung! Beautiful sunset, which my photos don't do justice to at all. Lovely having tea by the fire under millions of stars.
