Lower Level Katherine

Washing done and off to the Lower Level at Katherine today where there is a lovely picnic area beside the river. Garbage bins everywhere and there are people who still don’t know what they're for!! Such a shame, as you walk further up the river, to see the rubbish left behind at what is a beautiful place otherwise.

The weir at the bridge has plenty of water running over it, down along the rocks and looks so refreshing but for the croc seen in May so no swimming there!

Shows the strength of the water to push over such a huge tree
and the ability for the tree to survive even on it's side
Beautiful trees along the shore obviously affected by strong river flow

Looking back towards the weir

We then stopped at a walking track to the Hot Springs. After a hot walk that seemed too long, through the back of the industrial area, there was no sign of any sort of springs so we went back to the car and on to where we’d seen a road sign to the springs. Dead end, no further signs. We decided to forget it when we saw another road off to the springs (don’t think they really want people going there). If we’d kept walking it would have been kilometres in the heat and then back again. Glad we found them though, they are better than Bitter Springs. Longer and less restrictive.

We got in at the spring end and floated over the rock barriers into each different section. The water is not as hot as Bitter Springs either so lovely to float along in.

Back to the van for lunch and a ‘scan’ (senior citizens afternoon nap) then washing off the line and refreshing swim in the pool as it’s again very hot.
So thankful for the air conditioning, don't know how we’ll go in the free camps up here if this heat keeps up.

Took a short walk out the back of the caravan park which led to the river. A bit creepy walking down through what is obviously high water mark to the very croc likely habitat but the river did look lovely as it was shallow and flowing over rocks and sandy on the bottom.
