Age of Dinosaurs

9/6/16

So glad we did this last! Retraced our steps a bit to the site where they work on the dinosaur fossils found in the area. This was not so far as yesterday as we wanted to move on today. Fantastic place, where people work on releasing the fossilised bones from the rock around them. What a mammoth job 😋

So many bones preserved and waiting to be released
and such a slow, tedious job. It was very interesting watching
Top left: cauldron full of fossils of the right pelvis of Matilda,
one of the dinosaurs dug up in the Winton area

Bottom left: volunteer working very carefully to remove
the rock and clay around a petrified bone.

Right: view of the bone from end on. The shiny parts are the bone exposed
Views of the surrounding landscape from top of Mesa, on which
the Age of Dinosaurs site sits

Petrified bones of Matilda, that have been released from rock

them work and the whole exhibit is excellent, well worth the visit.
